CrazyLove: In April 2008 you got married to your husband Gareth. What did your wedding look like and where did it take place?
Kat: Our wedding was acutally quite traditional compared to the weddings I feature now just because I didn´t know much about weddings when I got married. So my wedding was kind of vintagy and I had like a white dress with a black print on it and my bridesmaids wore black. So it was kind of like a black and white 50´s and vintagy wedding.
CrazyLove: Did you know right from the start how your wedding should look? And where did you get your inspiration from?
Kat: No I didn´t now anything about weddings so I had no idea what it´s going to look like. I guess I got a lot of inspiration from wedding blogs from America. There wasn´t any in the UK at that time. I was the first wedding blog in the UK. So I read a lot of american wedding blogs and got lots of ideas from them. And even then there wasn´t much alternative stuff which is why I started my blog to kind of fill the gap.
CrazyLove: Did you feel any pressure from your family, friends or the wedding industry when planning your own wedding? If so, how did you handle that and what would you recommend couples that experience the same?
Kat: Yes, definitely. I think mothers often worry that alternative weddings are going to be really crazy and the guests would be like „Oh no, what to do?“. So I think a lot of parents are worried the weddings are going to be a too wacky. I guess I just showed her my ideas and I showed her it´s not going to be really crazy. It´s just going to be like fun little touches and stuff. So I recommend to people having trouble with their parents or the wedding industry not really understanding their ideas, to show them some pictures of how they want it and reassure them it´s not going to be really weird.
CrazyLove: Was your family disappointed in the end or were they happy?
Kat: Oh no, they loved it in the end.
CrazyLove: On your website you mentioned that planning your wedding was so much fun that you decided to make a career out of it. What was the most fun part? And what was most difficult?
Kat: I just loved that it was all about love. It´s still a very happy time being married but when you´re engaged you´re constantly excited about what´s going to come up with your wedding. Me and my fiance were doing things together and I just loved that. It was a really nice time in our lives. So when I carried on with the website I didn´t want that kind of feeling of anticipation and happiness to go. So I carried on with this stuff. I just loved wedding planning, it was so much fun.
CrazyLove: If you could marry again, the same guy of course, would you do anything differently?
Kat: Yes, it would be completely different, I think. Because we´ve been married like 8 years and we are different people now. Our tastes are very different. When we got married I was more into vintage and a bit more 50´s and maybe not quite as colourful and outgoing. I think now, if we got married it would be like a rainbow wedding and all the bridemaides would have crazy hair and wear boots and short dresses. It would be completely different as my style has changed.
FK: Do you have THE ultimate advice for all the brides and grooms out there?
Kat: My biggest piece of advice would be just do things that make you happy and just have things on your wedding that make you feel happy. And don´t feel like you have to spend lots of money to have a great day. You can have a great day with just a few hundret pounds or euros. Just don´t feel the pressure the wedding industry can put on you to spend a lot of money. Be yourself and have a great time. And get a great photographer.
